In the Pokémon TCG, cards fall into several types. Pokémon cards represent the creatures you use to battle; they have HP, attacks, abilities, and often a weakness and resistance. Trainer cards include Items, Supporters, and Stadiums—they provide effects, draw, or modify the game state.
Energy cards attach to Pokémon to pay for attacks; Basic Energy (e.g. Fire, Water, Grass) and Special Energy (with extra rules) both exist. Within Pokémon cards you also see rarity tiers: Common, Uncommon, Rare, Rare Holo, Ultra Rare, and secret rares or alternate arts, which affect collectibility and value.
Understanding card types helps when building decks, trading, or hunting for chase cards in products like booster packs and collection boxes.
